Gary Payton
Gary “The Glove” Payton is a Hall of Fame defensive point guard widely considered the greatest of all time. Drafted as the second pick in the 1990 NBA draft was the highest draft pick in team history at the time. During Gary’s 13 years playing with the Sonics, Gary was a cornerstone to its success. He is also the most decorated Sonic in franchise history earning All-Star nine times and All-NBA Player nine times (including two first teams in 1998 and 2000). He also holds franchise records in points, assists, and steals.
Gary remains tied with Michael Jordan, Kobe Bryant, and Kevin Garnett for the most All-Defensive First Team award winners with nine under his belt. After his tenure with the Supersonics, Gary went on to win an NBA championship with the Miami Heat. Today, Gary keeps the best years of his life alive with a large involvement in charities, bringing the Supersonics back to Seattle, studio analyses, movie and television appearances, and now as a KUDO Legend.
